In nonaqueous lithium cells TiO2 (rutile) and Li2TiO3 are inactive. Zircon concentrate is dried and cleaned by further electrostatic and gravity separation (to reduce the TiO 2 content) to 65% ZrO 2 + HfO 2 , the other principal component being SiO 2 . The microprobe work was carried out on a Cameca SX‐100 instrument (Cameca, Stuttgart, Germany) equipped with three wavelength dispersive spectrometers (WDS) and an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). This fraction is composed mainly of opaques, titanhematite, ilmenite–titanhematite exsolved intergrown grains, magnetic leucoxene in addition to chromite, and magnetic rutile. The magnetic rutile was six percent in weight of the obtained successive three magnetic fractions, and represents ∼4% of the original rutile content. These are optical properties that can produce a great gemstone, and these properties in rutile rival or exceed those of diamond. The other investigated grains are composed of rutile (G1), rutile, pseudorutile and altered ilmenite (G2), rutile and pseudorutile (G3), rutile and titanhematite including lamellae of pseudorutile and ferriilmenite (G5), and finally rutile and titanhematite including exsolved ferriilmenite (G6) (Fig. For the rutile prepared using a magnetic field followed by sintering at 1673K, the orientation factor, r, was 0.39, indicating that approximately79% of the grains were aligned with a tilt angle less than 20°. The fluid isotopic composition does not allow the internal and external fluid inputs to be quantified, as the two sources (host metabasites and metapelites) provide isotopic values that are relatively close (±2‰), even if a large amount of pelite-derived fluid amount is implied by the high content of phengite. The magnetic ground state of Fe-doped rutile TiO 2, an oxide-based dilute magnetic semiconductor, has been investigated within the hybrid-exchange approximation to density-functional theory. Concerning with the mass magnetic susceptibilities of the investigated magnetic rutile varieties, it is concluded that both the associated mineral component species and their corresponding volumes in relation to rutile mineral component decide the magnetic behavior of these magnetic grains.
